After finishing my work at Sandsea, I developed maps for a new PvP game mode named Control. In this game mode, players must capture zones or obtain kills to gain points. The first team to reach 750 points wins the game.
Capture Zones to obtain Points!
The First map is set in an area that players, both new and old, would be familiar with, so I stuck with a mountain/forest biome, known for being the environments players start their adventures. The environment houses waterfalls and a lake that houses many sharp cliffs and structures made from “Sneevils,” Imp-like creatures who are obsessed with boxes and wood. I decided to call this map Battle Falls.
Defeat your enemies and capture their zones!
After the primary look of the map was done, I decided to have the map evolve around the seasons of the year, thus, making a Halloween and a Festive variant.
Mastering movement allows for shortcuts!
Post-mortem - Battle Falls
This process was pleasant to follow as we had lots of in-house testing and adjusted the map quickly when requested.
It was nice to go back to my “roots” when I first started having an interest in building worlds 🙂
Seeing players finding “Shortcuts” that demonstrate mastery of gameplay is very satisfying and awesome to see!
