After the Tower of Necromancy, I began developing a brand new dungeon. After being more familiar with the pipeline process, I accepted and began developing what now is known as The Wolf Library.

Choose the right path, or else…

One of the significant issues that I noticed that AdventureQuest 3D had was how many of the dungeons mostly follow the formula that players must defeat all monsters in the room to progress further to the dungeon. While it makes sense, it can feel tedious and can lose player engagement. I decided to take a different approach to the dungeon experience and add other objectives.

Find Keys to open locked gates!

I went ahead and designed a lever code puzzle as well. Players must use the hint stones to figure out the right numbers to open the door leading to the dungeon’s final floor.

Pull the right levers… or else.

Post-mortem - Darkovia Part IV

The Wolf Library project was the most fun I’ve had in my Game Dev experience so far. Making dungeons that challenge the player’s intuition was a blast!

Overall, player feedback was very positive. Perhaps I made the dungeon a bit longer than needed, and I need to come up with a way to choose code combinations for puzzles randomly.

This experience showed me that Dungeon-making maybe my favorite thing to do. I will do my best to introduce more puzzles and interesting mechanics :)!
